The Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center is a private nonprofit corporation offering Residential Living, Personal Care/Assisted Living, Memory Support, Skilled Nursing Care and Respite and Rehabilitation Services.
Chartered as Erie's first welfare agency in 1871, Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, a private non- profit corporation, is committed to providing a comprehensive approach to retirement living through a continuum of care for its residents in a secure and supportive environment by offering quality health care and services as well as opportunities for mental, physical, recreational and spiritual programs at a reasonable cost.
RESIDENTIAL LIVING
This style of living at Sarah A. Reed is ideal for self-sufficient individuals. The Center offers studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. All residents have free access to social services and nursing consultations, a dietician, arts and crafts, planned recreation and entertainment, computer room with internet access, interdenominational religious programs, a chapel, lounges, library, off-street reserved parking, transportation services, a resident council for residents’ suggestions and concerns and an evening security system. All apartments are equipped with call bells for emergency nursing response.
PERSONAL CARE
Personal Care/Assisted Living offers direction and assistance with activities of daily living while promoting maximum independence. Staff assists with personal grooming, bathing, medication administration, housekeeping and laundry services. A Memory Support Unit (Zurn Pavilion) is available for residents with dementia and memory impairments who require a secured area and increased supervision.
The Center offers one-room and two-room apartments within the Personal Care/Assisted Living area.
SKILLED CARE
The nursing care unit provides intermediate and skilled care on a 24-hour basis. Licensed nursing personnel administer medications and supervise a planned program of care. Specialized services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, oxygen therapy, specialized diets and enteral nutrition, pain management, wound care, hydration and terminal care. Meals, linens, personal laundry, cable TV access, and housekeeping services are provided. To provide the best possible care, residents are periodically evaluated for changes in physical or mental functioning. Transfers to another level of care may be recommended by the Center’s medical team, including the resident’s attending physician.
Our Skilled Care facility is ideal for short-term stays as it provides oxygen, IV’s and needed services for recovery. In addition, it offers rehabilitation services that help residents return home quicker.
REHABILITATION SERVICES
The Center offers a full range of rehabilitation services. Full-time licensed Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists and a Speech-Language Pathologist staff our therapy department. Our team approach is designed to meet all of our resident’s needs, whether they are here for a short-term rehabilitation stay, or if they reside in our assisted living or residential apartments. We have two fully equipped therapy areas which allow our residential and assisted living residents easy access to all needed therapy services in their own environment.
The Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center is a participant in the Accelerated Care Plus (ACP) program. ACP is a specialized set of equipment combined with treatment protocols designed to expedite the healing and rehabilitation process. Our staff is trained in all ACP protocol and programs including pain management, fall prevention, wound care, contracture management and urinary incontinence. Additionally, we offer programs in cognitive and swallowing therapies.
