Founded in 1896, The Lutheran Home at Topton originated as The Lutheran Orphans Home, established to provide care and accommodations for children who had lost one or both parents. The home was built on a hill overlooking the rolling countryside of northeastern Berks County, Pa.

As society changed, the home began reaching out to children in their own homes and to other age groups. One building, for example, was renovated in the early 1940s into a home for older adults, beginning a history of service to older persons as well as to children.

Today, The Lutheran Home at Topton is a comprehensive senior living community whose accommodations and services include a Continuing Care Retirement Community, senior living accommodations, rental-assistance housing, personal care residences, various levels of care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and similar memory-related illnesses, and skilled nursing and rehabilitative health care.

All of these services are offered on a beautifully landscaped 80-acre campus uniquely combining the grandeur of history with first-class accommodations.
